Artworks created by Damien Hirst were burnt at Newport Street Gallery after the British artist sold a series of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) of the same works.

Footage from October 13 shows original hand-made spot paintings by the famous British artist being burnt in stoves as part of 'The Currency' exhibition on the top floor of the gallery in Vauxhall, London.

Gallery attendants scan the front of the works and holograms on the back before sending them to the fire.

Damien Hirst's project, which started in 2015, is testing the idea of the value of physical paintings versus their digital versions.

The exhibition is free to visit and will run until 30 October 2022.
