This is the incredible moment a mother elephant gave birth to her young at a botanical garden complex in Thailand.

The female jumbo named Porn, 27, delivered her baby, Norasing, at the Nong Nooch Garden in Pattaya, Chonburi province on September 29.

Footage shows the how the infant animal burst into the world from its mum's womb, making it the garden's fourth baby elephant of the year.

Staff helped the calf stand on its foot and later ushered the mother-son pair to their enclosure.

To celebrate the joyful occasion, the locals held a flower garland offering ceremony on October 5.

They gave a warm welcome to young Norasing, draping vibrant orange flower necklaces around his and Porn's necks during the religious rites.

Kampon Tansacha, chair of the Nong Nooch Tropical Garden Pattaya, said: 'This is a marvelous thing for us here at the Nong Nooch Garden. We now have 104 elephants in total.'

Elephants are the national animal of Thailand. In the wild, they roam through the deep jungle and in the country's protected national parks but often encounter humans on roads and in villages.

However, they are protected by laws and killing them carries a maximum prison term of up to three years and a fine of 1,000 baht (25GBP).
