Hungry macaques gorge on fresh fruits after Covid-19 stifles tourism in Myanmar
Hungry macaques stuffed themselves with fresh fruit brought by kind villagers after Covid-19 stifled tourism in Myanmar.
The monkeys, which had become reliant on tourists for food, began to starve after visitors stopped coming to their habitat in the Phowintaung cave complex in the Sagaing region.
A kind villager, Ko Htin Aung Kyaw, seeing the animals' plight, donated a smorgasbord of apples and watermelons for the primates to feast on.
Video shows compassionate residents slicing up the fruits and distributing them among the famished animals.
Ko Htin said: 'Normally, there are a lot of people who come to this place and feed the monkeys during their visit. They stopped after Covid so it wasn't easy for the monkeys.'
