Visitors to the National Gallery in London admired one of Van Gogh's famous Sunflowers paintings on Friday 14 October, after it was attacked by two climate activists earlier in the day.

The attack on the 1888 painting, by the group Just Stop Oil, took place in the art museum's Gallery 43 (Impressionists).

The climate protesters threw tomato soup onto the painting, which was saved by protective glass, although the frame was not spared.

They also glued themselves to the wall. There are now marks on the wall where they stuck their hands.

The pair were arrested and have been charged with causing criminal damage to the picture frame.
