The National Gallery visitors cheer famous Van Gogh's Sunflowers painting (1888) in Gallery 43 (Impressionists) following an attack on it by two climate activists from the group Just Stop Oil earlier in the day on Friday, 14 October. Climate protesters threw a can of tomato soup onto the painting. Protective glass saved the canvas from the damage. There are two white spots on the wall beneath the painting where the activists glued themselves to the wall. The two women who were arrested explained their action with the cost of living crisis.
