A customer stole a phone from a chicken shop in Agam Regency, Indonesia, after staff tended to a fire in the kitchen.

CCTV footage on October 12 shows a customer wearing a red helmet returning to the Ayam Geprek stall.

Carrying food that he bought earlier, the perpetrator picked up the mobile phone and made off with it on his motorbike.

Dayat Daffa, an employee, said the customer stole the phone when the shopkeeper tried to extinguish a fire in the kitchen.

"He bought a packet of chicken noodles and we served him. Before he left there was a bang in the kitchen, it turned out the stove exploded. We went to the kitchen to put out the fire," Daffa said.

"That customer then came back half an hour later to steal the phone while we were still in the kitchen," Daffa added.

The theft case was reported to the police with CCTV footage as evidence.
