More than 100 Afghans camp at São Paulo airport, Brazil, as they wait for appropriate accommodation. Local authorities claim that they were not properly briefed about their arrival and human rights organisations accuse the Brazilian government of not having a solid plan for their resettlement into the country.

More refugees are expected to land in the following days, despite the chaotic situation at the airport. Reuters has reported that there are at least four daily direct flights from the Middle East and South Asia.

The Brazilian government has granted 6,000 humanitarian visas for Afghan refugees since 2021.
