Terrifying timelapse footage shows a severe flood submerging a shop in Thailand.

The guitar store was closed for the day when the flood hit the area following heavy rain in Ang Thong province on October 14.

However, when the music teacher checked the CCTV recording while he was away, he was shocked to find his business under an 8ft-high flood.

The music teacher said: ‘I didn't give lessons because of the heavy rains. I was relieved that I decided to close the shop that day and went home.'

When he returned to the shop after the water receded, most of his guitars had been damaged by floodwater.

Thailand's notoriously bad drainage system - collapsing through chronic underinvestment and corruption diverting away public funds - has been overwhelmed by heavy rain this year.

Meteorologists have blamed climate change for the sustained heavy rain, which has been hitting the Thai capital and provinces around the country causing severe floods for several weeks.

Thailand's Center for Climate Change and Disaster claimed the coming months could see heavier, longer rainfalls, due to 'climate change'.

Local media reported that the country has seen 'an unusually sustained and persistent rainy season' this year.

The heavy rain has been compounded by the deluge from Typhoon Noru, which dumped water in the country's northeast region, causing rivers flowing into the central region to swell.
