Devotees climbed a 100-ft Buddhist chedi to wrap a sacred red cloth around its spire during religious festivities in Thailand.

Vertigo-inducing footage shows the villagers scaling the Phra Samut Chedi while carrying the red fabric in Samut Prakan province on October 15.

Upon nearing the summit, they then draped the 'blessed; cloth around the building's bell-shaped midsection before rappelling back down to the ground on ropes.

The annual ceremony - performed to pay homage to the 12 Buddhist relics stored inside the chedi - started an 11-day celebration lasting until October 26.

Local authorities also prepared food, entertainment, and games for villagers to enjoy later in the afternoon.

Phra Samut Chedi is a sacred landmark completed in Samut Prakan province during the reign of King Rama III in the 18th century.

Said to house several Buddhist relics, the stupa has become an iconic landmark in the province.
