A massive crocodile was filmed effortlessly dragging a defeated rival through a swamp by its tail.

Mike Diaz was filming in the mangrove swamps around Yucatan, Mexico, when his drone caught sight of the aftermath of an epic battle.

Amazing footage shows one swamp crocodile measuring around two-and-a-half metres with its powerful jaws clamped around the tail of a slightly smaller reptile.

The vicious victor appeared to glide through the water with incredible ease despite pulling an animal that can weigh up to 200kg behind it.

Mike, from Merida, Mexico, said: “I’ve been photographing crocodiles around Yucatan for 10 years but I have never seen anything like this before.

“Normally I capture the reptiles with their babies feeding, but this was a very different scene.

“I filmed them in the middle of a devastated mangrove. The biggest croc was around two-and-a-half-metres long.

“I’ve been monitoring this species in the same area for a long time and they usually fight each other.

“It might be that these two fought for territory and the winner was dragging off its prize. I believe it took it to a distant mangrove to eat it.”
