A man trolled by people comparing his bald head to a "skating rink" has gone viral on TikTok after revealing how to cover up hair loss with a simple trick and social media users can't believe the catfish transformation.

Paul, a sandwich maker from Lima, Peru, first started noticing his thick, glossy locks falling out unexpectedly 14 years ago and struggled to cope with his new reality.

He believes the "difficult" ordeal is due to genetics, as his dad and grandparents also used to have "beautiful and thick" hair, which soon started to disappear.

In a bid to deal with the situation, Paul began adjusting a few of his remaining hairs to create a "fuller" look and soon, his illusion hack went viral.

Uploading his trick on TikTok, he's racked up thousands of followers, with one video earning him five million views and 217,000 likes.

"I loved my hair and to fight against [the hair loss] I invented the hairstyle, which in the end went viral on TikTok," Paul told NeedToKnow.Online.

"For me, it was difficult at first, because I didn't expect it and I don't know if it's alopecia but what I do know is that it's genetics.

"After it began to fall out, I tried not to notice it by adjusting a few hairs and with pure creativity, around 11 years ago, I began to make myself a hairstyle to look like I had hair.

"I always said to myself: 'Why am I going to lose my hair? I won't allow it.' and that's how it's been to date."

In the clip, Paul shows himself with his current hair, revealing a bald patch on the top of his head.

To create the new look, he grabs hair from around the patch and hairsprays this into place within the centre, which makes it look as if it's been casually brushed over.

After using another spritz of hairspray to secure his locks, he uses a comb to smooth the lookout.

Users flocked to the comments to share their reactions, with many shocked at the easy transformation.

"I'm shocked at how good the result is!," said one viewer.

One person said: "Great idea, better than a wig, at least it is your own hair! Good gel and sprays will keep it there."

Someone else commented: "But what about on a windy day?"

"If the wind or the water comes I want to see what happens?!," commented another user.

Someone else said: "Keep living the life you love and loving the life you live!"

While he's received lots of support online, Paul has also experienced his fair share of trolls who have compared his "before" look to a "skating rink"

He said: "I've been asked: 'Is the skating rink available today?', to which I reply, I'm really sorry, but it's rented as an airport for a few fleas.

"I try to cope with the hate in the best way but when it's too much, I delete the comment and if it's worse, I block them.

"But it doesn't affect me at all, because I know who I am inside.

"At the beginning, [making TikToks] was very bad for me, because I only appeared with a cap or with the hairstyle and for the first few weeks, I was looking for what the viewers would like.

"One day, I said to myself that I'd make a video doing the hairstyle I've done for years, and I discovered that seeing something unusual or never been seen before work.

"My content was liked in such a way that over time, people made me see that I was helping them because they had suffered from low self-esteem or from being bald.

"I took advantage of my baldness to have fun."

Now, he claims women and men alike constantly ask him for advice on not only baldness but also on how they can improve themselves.

Paul added: "I tell them, this is just entertainment and that helped them, as well as myself, to accept themselves as they are and to learn that people can love bald people – with hair or without.

"In reality, the only thing which [shows] is how you are on the inside, that's what matters most.

"Believe me, true love goes far beyond a person's physical appearance."
