A mum has shared the bizarre moment she discovered that her contractor had trapped her cat inside a drywall after hearing meowing coming from the bathroom ceiling.

Ashlin Hadden, 38, who runs an Insurance Agency in Noblesville, Indiana, US, shared the "Cat-a-strophic" DIY mishap with her followers on TikTok (@ashlinhadden), where it has quickly racked up three million views and 355,500 likes.

During the clip, the mum reveals her beloved cat Stripes had been missing for nearly three days when she heard a bizarre noise from inside the bathroom ceiling.

“I hired a contractor to replace my bathtub and tiles", Ashlin said. "The contractor was behind and I had already scheduled a work trip. He was aware that the cats were in the house, I locked the cats out of the bedroom and the master bathroom. Upon my return from my business trip, one of my cats (Cookie – the girl) met me at the door, and she was acting unusually vocal. I went into the room to check on their food, water, and litter box and everything looked good, but I still didn’t see Stripes. So I started meowing to see if he would respond, it wasn't like him to not come to the door, I was looking around the house and didn’t see anything.”

Suddenly, Ashlin heard a "faint meow" but couldn't believe where the sound was coming from.

The woman explained: "I started this little cat conversation where I would meow and he would meow back to me. I was starting to get worried because I could not figure out where he was. After a few minutes, it seemed like the meow was coming from the ceiling. I ran upstairs and heard him scratching the wall in my closet. I could tell that there was a patch in the drywall so I ran to the neighbours' house and asked for a drywall saw".

Ashlin started to cut the drywall after realising that Stripes was trapped.

“He started meowing even louder so I thought maybe I was hurting him, so I just punched a hole right in the wall and then kinda kicked it in.
The cat came jumping out! I was crying and scared and nervous.
I was concerned for the cat but also for how my oldest child Gavin, was going to react. He has ADHD and an emotional disorder and this cat is his life, he loves Stripes", she said.

TikTok viewers have been left stunned by the bizarre incident, with users quick to share their reactions.

“Poor kitty. Glad they’re ok,” commented one person.

“HOW DO U EVEN DO THIS,” commented a second viewer.

"Plus, they don't get paid to pay attention to where your pets are while they're working. if it sneaks in, that isn't their fault..." commented a third viewer.

After finally getting Stripes to safety, Ashlin called the contractor.

She claims: "I asked if there was any possibility that they drywalled the cat.

"I knew darn well what the answer was because I just got the cat out of there, and he said 'Well yeah I guess, we didn’t cover the hole when we left the other day".

Ashlin, who is devoted to helping her local community, is now using the popularity of her viral clip to raise money for her local animal rescue 4 Precious Paws.
