Mysterious spots of light that pierced through the fog in northern China turned out to be from the windows of a high-rise building.

The video was filmed in the city of Jiaohe in Jilin Province on October 15.

Residents were seen using their phones to film the light spots that looked like mirages in the sky.

After being verified, the light spots were actually lights from a nearby high-rise building.

According to reports, two 32-storey residential buildings are around 100 metres away from Jiaohe Street. The lights from the residents' flats went through the fog, forming mirage-like light spots in the sky.

蛟河大街一家商户老板介绍，临近冬季，特别是早晨气温低，蛟河市城区出现大雾，能见度很低，路人看不见远处的高楼，只看见楼上居民家中的灯光，所以才以为是海市蜃楼。”
