This is the moment park rangers guided a mother and baby elephant off a road in Thailand.

The jumbo pair emerged from the forest and walked across the concrete path in Nakhon Ratchasima province, on October 20.

Patrolling officers found the creatures stalling traffic so they had to lead them back to the jungle.

Footage shows a pickup truck with an officer calling out to the elephants that were searching for food on the roadside.

Tourist Wallapa Saekang said: 'The protective mother would not leave her baby's side, so the park officers could only bring them back to the forest if the baby comes.

‘However, the baby was so playful. We had to wait for a few minutes before we could safely pass through.'

After about half an hour, the jumbos were led off the road and back into the forest.

Thailand has an estimated 2,000 Asian elephants living in the wild where they wander freely among protect forests. However, there is often conflict when they come into contact with humans on roads and in villages.

A similar number of elephants are kept in captivity where they work in the tourist industry or get hired out for religious festivals and weddings. A small number still work in commercial logging.
