This footage was filmed and produced 8 October 2022.

The Kingdom of Lesotho has an abundance of water in its mountainous areas. But water goes from Lesotho to South Africa in a year, earning the landlocked country billions. But people living in villages near the dams don’t benefit and even have to get their own water from unprotected sources, from which waterborne diseases spread.

Reports say that shortages of water, especially in the dry season, mean people in the lowlands suffer from severe scarcity.

Interview translations:

1. Mamatlekeng Moeketsi: "We have a struggle with water here, and sometimes we have to use donkeys and a cart to come fetch water, and it's not easy because we need to use water for drinking, cooking and washing. This area water is scarce. The problem we have is this is our only source of water and we share it with animals."

2. Maketeng Moeketsi: "When I finish school, I will help my people(community) with taps for proper running water. So that they don't drink dirty water that they share with cows"
