A powerful tornado damaged hundreds of homes as it tore through residential areas in Indonesia on Sunday.

The twister blitzed houses and uprooted trees in the Sidoarjo Regency of East Java province on October 23.

Footage shows the vortex whipping up leaves, branches, and debris as it swirled over buildings during overcast weather.

Authorities said the gales damaged at least 291 houses and injured four residents. No casualties were reported.

They added residents in Sidokepung village suffered the brunt of the devastation, with some 100 homes in the area affected.

Sidoarjo Regent Ahmad Muhdlor said: 'We distributed assistance in the form of tarpaulins, blankets and also other assistance needed by the community in Sidokepung village as their homes are not currently suitable for occupancy.'
