Thai taxi driver buys wife gold bracelet using five years' worth of pocket change
This persevering Thai taxi driver surprised his wife with a gold bracelet that he bought using five years' worth of small change he collected from his fares.
With discipline, hard work, and patience, devoted husband Prajim Kongtaeng, 59, was able to purchase the jewelry worth 200,000 THB (around 5,230 USD) on October 22.
He squirreled away coins given to him from passengers over five years and finally bought the accessory for his wife after saving up enough.
Prajim said: 'I like to save money. I know what it's like to have nothing. Some days, I earn 50 baht. Other days, 100 baht or 1000 baht.
'When I make a lot, I keep a lot, when I don't, I don't keep much, and I put the money in bags. Each bag contains 1000 baht.'
Due to the large number of coins, Prajim had to search for gold shops around Thailand that would accept his payment.
Luckily, he found one store - EkkaratGold in Nakhon Pathom province - that accepted his coin haul.
Footage shows Prajim lugging the hefty bag on his shoulder as he walked to the jewelry store.
Diligent workers took more than two hours to count the money. With his earnings, Prajim was able to buy a 76-gram bracelet and a 15-gram ring.
His proud daughter, Potjanee Kaewnopcharoen, 35, secretly filmed him on the day he made the purchase.
She said: 'When I heard my father was going to buy the gold, I recorded him carrying the bag of money.
'I then uploaded it on TikTok for fun, not expecting it to go viral, but when I realized how many people had liked my video the next morning, I was shocked.'
Prajim's overjoyed wife Ka-jad Kongtang, 48, said: 'I'm very proud of my husband. He has always been a determined man.
'I am delighted that he has given me the present, but I will share it with him asan encouragement to continue saving money.'
