Typhoon Nalgae lashed southern Philippines, submerging cars and flooding a gymnasium on Friday morning.

Footage shows the water filling up a gymnasium during an event in Upi town, Maguindanao province, early morning on October 28.

Resident Remar Pablo said the rain began lashing the town at 1:00 am local time, with the flood quickly rising until it also submerged parked vehicles outside the building.

Naguib Sinarimbo, interior minister of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, said at least 13 people have died in Maguindanao province as Tropical Storm Nalgae lashed the region on Friday.

Nasrullah Imam, head of the Maguindanao disaster management office, said: 'It really surprised us because the affected municipalities are the ones that are not prone to flooding.

'There are other villagers that are yet to be found. Most of them were victims of flash floods when they were caught while inside their homes.'

Tropical storm Nalgae, locally named Paeng, is expected to strengthen into a typhoon by Saturday October 29 as it rip through the Bicol region where it will make its first landfall.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported that a total of 4,975 individuals were evacuated as severe flooding reached roof height in some areas.
