Two wild elephant bulls battle for territory on road in Thailand
This is the moment two wild elephant bulls battled for territory on the road in Thailand.
The aggressive jumbos fought for dominance, chasing each other along a road at a national park in Nakhon Ratchasima province on October 20.
When they reached a rescue facility, the elephants locked tusks and began pushing each other in a duel.
Footage shows the wild creatures in a standoff as they strike each other with their ivory tusks.
National Park officer Pipat Macaw said: ‘These two always cross paths in this area. They seem to be in a fight over territory.'
Park ranger Pipat added it was not the first time that the two were seen fighting in the area.
He said: ‘They have done it at least two times. We believe they will do it again in the coming days until someone wins, so we are always on alert.'
Officers flashed a spotlight on the animals to separate them, and after landing multiple blows on each other, the elephants fled back to the forest.
No one was reported hurt in the incident. Officer Pipat said both elephants were stubborn and didn't give up.
He said: ‘We expect it to continue because both were stubborn. They wouldn't give up easily.'
Thailand has an estimated 2,000 Asian elephants living in the wild where they wander freely among protect forests. However, there is often conflict when they come into contact with humans on roads and in villages.
A similar number of elephants are kept in captivity where they work in the tourist industry or get hired out for religious festivals and weddings. A small number still work in commercial logging.
