A road was transformed into a raging river as Typhoon Nalgae lashed the Philippines killing at least 72 people.

Footage shows the knee-deep flood churning along a road in Libungan town, Cotabato province, on October 28. The strong currents blocked vehicles from crossing.

State weather bureau PAGASA said the trough of the storm is affecting the country's central and southern regions.

Naguib Sinarimbo, interior minister of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, said at least 31 people have died in Maguindanao province in southern Philippines as of Friday, October 28.

The Typhoon Nalgae death toll had risen to 72 by Saturday morning following severe floods and landslides in southern provinces. Tens of thousands more have been evacuated or fled their homes.

Tropical storm Nalgae, locally named Paeng, strengthened into a typhoon as it made landfall.

Agency spokesman Bernardo Rafaelito Alejandro told local media on Saturday that Maguindanao province was the most affected with 67 people dead, while two were killed in Sultan Kudarat, another two in South Cotabato and the rest of the casualties spread across the Visayas region in central Philippines.
