A Filippino man was filmed on Saturday 29 October using a large water bottle as a floatation device to help him swim across a river in the absence of a now-collapsed bridge.

The Philippines' Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Ilocos reported that the Carlos P. Romulo Bridge (formerly Wawa Bridge), which crosses the Agno River in Bayambang, Pangasinan collapsed due to overloading on Thursday, October 20.

The local government arranged free motorised boats to cross the river but when tropical storm Nalgae forced the municipality to stop boat operations, the man resorted to his own, dangerous, technique for getting across.
