A tornado ravaged the northern French town of Bihucourt on Sunday 23 October.

Footage filmed on Friday 28 October showed destruction in the town, in Departement Pas-de-Calais in the Hauts-de-France region.

The unusual weather event also caused the risk of asbestos contamination, as old structures possibly containing the material were damaged.

The tornado travelled 85km (54 miles), the longest trajectory ever observed for a French tornado.

The previous record-holder, the tornado of Saint-Claude (Jura) on 19 August 1890, is recorded as having a trajectory of 81 km.

The Bihucourt tornado crossed no fewer than 38 French municipalities, eight Belgian sections, five railway lines (including two high-speed lines), 10 major roads and five motorways.
