A woman in Jakarta had a lucky escape after hanging from a fifth floor apartment window in North Jakarta on Friday 28 October.

To the terror of assembled locals, the woman, believed to be 22, was hanging from the window while standing on a narrow window ledge of one of the Rorotan Tower apartment blocks in the Cilincing districts.

Panicked residents asked the woman to hold on tight while they and local police officers prepared cloths and mattresses below in case she fell.

Fortunately, she was finally able to climb up and back through the window, with emergency services personnel helping to pull her up.

It is thought that she climbed out deliberately after a row with her husband, who had forbidden her to leave their flat, on the grounds that she had to take care of a sick child.

Local media quoted an official of the Rotoran complex saying that she tried to get to the neighbours' house by that unorthodox route in order to get out of her locked apartment to buy food for her children.

A woman with the initials AO (22) caused an uproar because she was hanging outside the window of the 5th floor of the Rorotan Flat, Cilincing, North Jakarta. The panicked residents asked AO to hold on tight, while preparing cloths and mattresses to anticipate the unexpected.

Her reckless action was carried out because she was noisy with her husband. Officers assisted by residents of the flats tried to prepare for rescue, fortunately the perpetrators managed to climb up and re-enter the flats through the window.

"Finally survived. Indeed, at that time there happened to be Mr. RT, then the security forces also assisted so that the mother was lifted to be rescued and there were no injuries at all," said Head of the UPRS III Implementation Unit of Rorotan Flat Rustiadi Hendi in Cilincing, quoted from Antara, Friday. October 28, 2022.

According to Rustiadi, AO deliberately carried out the dangerous act after being forbidden to leave their residential unit by her husband with the initials GA (23), on the grounds that she had to take care of a sick child. But the housewife still forced out through the window.

"Because everyone was locked in the house. The wife took the road out of the window to go to the next door neighbor's house to buy food for the children," said Rustiadi.
