Malaumkarta comes from three syllables, namely: Mala which means mountain or broad plain, Um, which is the name of an island located in the village of Malaumkarta ± 0.16 miles from the shoreline of the village of Malaumkarta and the word Karta is taken from the name of the capital city of Jakarta. Malaumkarta villagers have inhabited this area for centuries as recorded in the legend of the Moi tribe civilization in the Bird's Head region of Papua (Malamoi).
