This is the amusing moment a cheeky orangutan flirted with a pretty zoo visitor in Thailand.

Footage shows the primate wearing bright shorts adorably hugging and kissing Panisara Rikulsurakan, 26, at the Safari World in Bangkok on September 30.

The Sumatran orangutan then laid down on the woman's lap while holding her head and smooched her cheeks. He even jumped on Panisara's back and clung to her affectionately.

The orangutan then walked back to his caretaker to be ready for the next visitor to take selfies with.

Overwhelmed tourist Panisara said: 'The orangutan was showing so much love. I felt like I was going to melt when he started snuggling me.

'When he was holding onto me I looked into his eyes and it was like a human being. There was a person with a soul inside. It made me care more a lot more about orangutans, as they are so special.'

Critically endangered Sumatran orangutans are among the smartest primates in the world. They can use a variety of tools and construct sleeping nests from branches and leaves.

Despite the cute tricks the orangutan is trained to perform at the zoo, animal welfare groups including PETA have raised concerns about the creatures being 'exploited and humiliated' to entertain tourists.

However, the zoo owners claim that they are raising the orangutans in a safe environment, helping to preserve the species with only around 14,000 left in the world.
