A Bungling driver accidentally reversed up a set of steps - leaving himself and the passenger stuck.

The driver, 50, and his father, 80, had visited the Buddhist temple when they were beginning the drive home in Khon Kaen province, Thailand, on October 25.

However, while the motorist was backing up, he appeared to speed up while going in a circle and hitting the stairs leading up to the religious building.

Locals rushed over to the car after hearing the crash. The driver, who has not been named, blamed the automatic transmission gear stick for jamming.

He said: 'We just came back from another temple and on our way back, we had to use the restroom so we stopped by.

'We reversed the car to head out of the temple, but for some reason, the gear became stuck so we didn't know what to do.

'I was in a panic and couldn't stop the car.'

The driver and his elderly relative were both unharmed following the scrape.

Onlooker Manad Singhanuwat said: 'At around 2:30 pm, I heard a loud noise coming from the temple, so I ran to see what was going on.

'I saw the car stuck on the stairs, and a terrified driver and a passenger inside whose hands were trembling.

'The right rear wheel was broken, and both the front and back bumpers were damaged.'

The temple's Abbott, Panyakorn, 60, said he was grateful nobody was hurt.

He added: 'It was an accident. The temple was not damaged in any way so they won't have to pay for anything.'
