The death toll from the collapse of a suspension bridge in western India's Gujarat, has risen to 141.

The shocking incident happened over the Machchhu river in Gujarat’s Morbi district on October 30.

Visuals captured the chilling moment when the bridge collapsed. People who stood on the bridge panicked after it started shaking and in a matter of seconds, the whole structure broke and fell, along with everyone, into the river below.


A rescue operation to save the people, was later conducted where the people hung around on one side of the broken bridge as they slowly and carefully made their way up.

According to the reports, a total of 141 people have lost their lives in the incident and a reported 100 others are under treatment owing to severe injuries. They were rushed to the hospital where they are receiving treatment. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also has offered his condolences for the victims and assured help to those affected.

The bridge, called Julto Phool, was reportedly a construction of the pre-British era and is a tourist attraction in Morbi. The bridge reportedly collapsed because of the weight of the people on it.
