A teen's lips swelled like a cartoon after he was stung by a wasp.

Cairodine Maute, 16, was harvesting cotton fruit with friends but the youngster accidentally hit an insect nest in Bukidnon province, the Philippines on June 27.

The football-sized object was nudged by the pole fruit picker before disturbed wasps attacked the youngsters.

Footage shows Cairodine fleeing from the tree as his lips bulged. His friends could be heard laughing in the background.

Cairodine said: ‘I was in charge of picking up the fruit that fell to the ground so when the nest was hit I was closest to it. The bite was not painful but I felt my lips numbing.'

After almost four hours, the young lad's lips had swollen five times their normal size.

Cairodine added he did not feel anything unusual when his lips became bigger.

He said: ‘There was nothing unusual, it just felt weird that my lips were big like a cartoon character.'

The swelling gradually disappeared when he woke up in the morning.
