A hungry python was caught eating a family's lucky charm carp fis in their garden pond.

The serpent slithered inside the family's property and pounced on the pet fish in the water feature in Nonthaburi province, Thailand on October 29.

It plunged into the pond to crush the creature before shocked house owner Somchai Moonpim spotted the snake and called the rescuers for help.

Footage shows the python refusing to let go of the wriggling carp as volunteers used a pole to catch it.

Shocked resident Somchai said: ‘I heard splashing near the garage. I went to check and found the snake in the pond.

‘I rushed to call for help because I didn't know what to do. The snake looked hungry and took my lucky charm pet as a meal.'

Animal rescuers arrived and used a metal grabber to separate the snake from the fish but it only strangled the creature tighter.

The carp escaped but it eventually died from being attacked. It was buried in the family's backyard.

Meanwhile, the rescuers took the snake with them and released it back to the wild.

The wildlife worker said: 'Be careful of water lizards and snakes if you plan to continue to have a fish pond. They may return because to them fish are food.'
