A motorist spotted the world's rarest leopard, an Amur leopard, in northern China.

Video filmed in the city of Hunchun in Jilin Province on November 3 shows a motorist named locally aa Zhang encountering a solitary Amur leopard wandering in a forest on the side of a road.

According to Zhang, he saw the leopard walk across the road and enter the forest.

According to the World Wide Fund for Nature, the Amur leopard is the most endangered big cat on Earth. There are thought to be only around 120 adults left in the wild. Their habitat is under threat from logging, forest fires and road and industrial development, the charity says. It adds: "The Amur leopard can run at speeds of up to 37 miles per hour. This incredible animal has been reported to leap more than 19 feet horizontally and up to 10 feet vertically."

The video was provided by local media with permission.
