This is the terrifying moment a 200ft long stretch of sidewalk collapsed into a river in the Philippines.

CCTV footage shows the pavement sagging into the water in Barangay Pio del Pilar, Makati City in Metro Manila just before midnight on November 6.

The ground slid into the ravine, plunging the yellow guardrails and a hapless dog into the water.

Residents said they noticed the structure slightly slumping after tropical storm Nalgae battered the neighbourhood last month. The driving rain and wind is believed to have eroded the foundations.

Ponyang, a local living opposite the river said: 'Of course, we were frightened. Sometimes, when we stroll along the sidewalk, we can feel it shaking. It seemed like it was not stable.'

Authorities have cordoned off the area with traffic cones to prevent accidents.

Local government officials said they will investigate what had caused the collapse, adding clearing operations and repairs are now underway.
