This is the moment animal rescuers chased a rat snake around a family's home in Thailand.

The team was called to the property when residents found the serpent hiding behind their washing machine in Chanthaburi province on May 25.

However, volunteers had difficulty securing the agile snake as it speedily slithered around the house.

Footage shows the team catching the snake. When a rescuer finally grabbed hold of the creature, it slipped off his hand so they had to search for it and catch it again.

The wildlife volunteer said: ‘I grabbed the snake's tail but then it was quick so it escaped my grip. A colleague had to help me secure its neck and body before we were able to catch it.'

The snake was then put inside a sack and released into the wild after the chase.
