Severe floods hit southern Thailand as the seasonal monsoon rains moved down the country.

Floodwaters submerged swathes of Phatthalung province after the Ton Phrae Thong Waterfall surged following heavy rain on October 6.

Local forestry officers have warned residents near the falls to be alert for flash floods as heavy rain continue to batter the region.

The downpours also caused mountain runoff to flow into homes, orchards, and a resort.

Resort owner Thanet Prabkree said: 'The employees were eating together when the flood gushed in and filled the resort within 15 minutes. Everyone ran away.

'Luckily, no one was harmed, but the tables and chairs at the banquet hall were swept away by the current.'

Popular local singer Ekachai Sriwichai, whose house was also flooded, said: 'Fortunately, this year, the water flowed in during the morning so the villagers could evacuate in time.

'I plan to settle down here, but when faced with a flood situation like this for the second time, it makes me re-think my decision.'

Thailand has been experiencing heavy floods for several months.

This year, meteorologists have blamed climate change for the sustained heavy rain, which has been hitting the Thai capital and provinces around the country.

Local media reported that the country has this year seen 'an unusually sustained and persistent rainy season'.
