Western Blue-tongue Skinks (Tiliqua occipitalis) are large, slow-moving lizards native to Australia. Blue-tongue Skinks are omnivores and love eating slugs and snails, insects, spiders, flowers and fruit. Blue-tongue Skinks gape and show their blue tongues when threatened, as well as detecting odours with their tongues. They make great pets and may live for 30 years in captivity. This large adult Western Blue-tongue Skink was sunning on a sand track and began moving off when it saw me, flicking its blue tongue on the way.
