An urban explorer has left social media users in shock after finding a mysterious box in a sewer – with people telling him "don't open it".

Jose Flores, 23, is a student and content creator from Mexico with nearly six million followers on TikTok (@josefloresterror), where he shares his adventures in abandoned buildings and unusual locations.

In a recent clip, which has left social media users stumped and racked up over 10.4 million views and almost 900,000 likes, he reveals a strange metal box.

Jose found the box after rooting around a sewer and was horrified by the contents – which included a rope, a small shovel, a child's top, photos of children, and a poster with a police number on it.

"Inside the box, I found photographs and things related to children," Jose told NeedToKnow.online.

"It was as if someone had collected all these things and kept them together.

"When we found the box we were surprised because everything seemed so unreal that we even thought it was some kind of joke.

"It definitely wasn't ours to find!"

Jose made a call to the authorities, who allegedly told him that strange disappearances had recently happened very close to that area.

He added: "They thanked us and told us that they would continue with the investigation."

In the video, Jose can be seen with the then closed box, before popping on a pair of gloves and using a hammer to open the draw.

He then pulls out the contents and shows them to viewers, who aren't quite sure what to think.

Some people cracked jokes, comparing the box to the cinematic hit Jumanji – with many users simply commenting by referencing the film's name.

"It's the Jumanji box, don't open it," wrote one user.

Another user said: "This will be the work of Pennywise."

Others took a more serious tone, encouraging the influencer to take the items to the police – likely unaware that he had spoken to them.

"When you find strange things like that and there are children's clothes, you have to call the police, you might be touching things from a crime scene," wrote one user.

"See trafficking," commented someone else.

Another person said: "Take it to the police plz." [sic]

"Waoooooo so scary," added someone else. [sic]

Another user suggested the box may belong to a "murderer" or "kidnapper".
