These two base jumpers escaped serious injuries after they collided in mid-air during their descent of the world's seventh tallest tower.

Campbell Pool and his friend James both leapt off the 421-metre-tall Kuala Lumpur Tower in Malaysia in October 2017.

A GoPro attached to Pool's helmet captured the moment the duo smashed into each other during their rapid descent. Luckily, both of them managed to pull their parachutes in time.

Pool said: "My friend James and I are standing on a platform attached to the top of the observation deck of the tower.

"We hold hands and jump off, aiming to flip to a head down position, and we had planned for him to deploy his parachute from the 'magic backpack' he's wearing in the video, and then for me to do the same.

"Unfortunately, I collided with him as he was deploying his chute, and tumbled for a second before deploying mine, and had lost too much altitude to be able to fly to where we'd been landing for the last three days of jumping at the event."

The video shows Pool swerving away from a tree before crash-landing on a hill near a busy road.

Several onlookers ask if the base jumper is ok and gives them a thumbs-up.

Pool added: "An object dropped from the tower has about 6.7 seconds of freefall until it impacts the ground right by where I landed.

"It happened due to a delay of about 0.75 of a second in delaying my parachute, which was caused by our collision in freefall. Another 0.75 to 1 second of delay would have resulted in me impacting the ground with no parachute out and dying.

"The nature of base jumping is inherently dangerous and relies upon split-second timing, so this was a very close call, and a very valuable lesson to me in risk management, which has served me well as I've continued my base jumping career."
