Scary drone footage captured the moment a massive tiger shark swam directly under an oblivious surfer just as he was carried away by a wave.

Lewis Watson was flying his drone over Ewa Beach, Hawaii, on October 16 when a surfer flapped his arms to point his attention to something out in the sea.

Dramatic footage showed a 12-foot-long-tiger shark as it swam among a group of surfers who appeared to be unaware of its presence.

The huge predator glided directly under one surfer who had seconds before been paddling with his arms off his board before fortunately being swept away by a wave.

Lewis said: “The shark was roughly two foot under him when he caught the wave. The surfer did not know what happened. He continued to surf for a while after the incident.

“My first reaction was to tell my daughter and friends to get out the water. Then make sure I had hit the record button and stay with it.

“The shark was big and beautiful. It was swimming away from shore back out towards the deep. It didn’t seem aggressive at all.

“I’m a plumber by profession but enjoy to surf with my kids and fly my drone on my free time. This time I was at the right place at the right time.

“This beach is sharky. I’ve been approached by a tiger shark similar in size last year while surfing this beach.

“My kids and I see sharks on occasion while in the water surfing at this beach. The beach next to it is called sharks country.

“I even showed the surfer the video after he got out the water but he insisted that it wasn’t him. I tried to reassure him that it was him but kept saying that wasn’t him.”
