This is the heartwarming moment tourists saved a sea turtle tangled in a rope at a beach in Bali, Indonesia.

The exhausted 4ft-long marine creature was spotted by holidaymakers trapped under a large rock in Nusa Lembongan island on August 26.

The family noticed its flippers were caught on pieces of discarded blue string preventing it from swimming away. They called for help and several passers-by went over to help.

Footage shows the tourists using a small knife to cut the rope off one of the turtle's legs.

Onlooker Francisco La Bella said: ‘It felt nice to be able to see people helping each other save a big turtle.'

Once it was freed from the rope, other tourists helped push the creature back to the water. The creature then swam away.

Francisco added: ‘It was the highlight of my stay in Bali. That moment was priceless.'

Ocean pollution is one of the biggest threats to marine life, alongside illegal hunting and bycatch from fishing trawlers.
