Fisherman catches 150kg giant catfish from river in Thailand
This is the incredible moment a fisherman caught a giant catfish - that was too big for him to haul aboard.
Trawler Siannert Mongsing threw his net from his boat into the water hoping to haul food for lunch in the Mekong river, Udon Thani province, northern Thailand, on November 9.
However, when he pulled the object back into his boat he had snagged the enormous Mekong catfish fish. He estimated it weighed around 150kg.
Footage shows the lucky fisherman Siannert checking out his enormous catch inside the net.
He said: ‘I thought a big ball of trash was caught on my net that's why it was heavy but it turned out to be a giant catfish.'
The proud fisherman had to release the catfish back into the river as it was too big. They are also a protected species.
He said: ‘Because they're too big, their meat is almost leathery and not delicious so I was happy to let it swim back to the water.'
