This is the heartwarming moment hero residents rescued a stray cat trapped under the sewers.

Macy Dela Cruz responded to the scene when a local reported that there was a feline stuck under the 1ft-deep drain in Batangas province, the Philippines on November 2.

When she arrived in the area, she found the white fluffy moggy reaching its tiny paws between the gaps of the steel sewer cover.

Footage shows Macy reassuring the scared little cat before more locals arrived to help free the cat.

Macy said: ‘I don't know how she was stuck under the drain. She might have been looking for food but ended up lost under the sewers.

‘A concerned local informed us about the cat. We went there immediately upon seeing the post and luckily she was still there.'

Macy added that the area was prone to flooding during rainy days and the drain was not very deep and could easily be filled with gushing water.

She said: ‘If it were raining, the cat might not survive the flood prone area. It was sunny that day so we were relieved.'

The steel cover's gap were too narrow to pull the cat out until a local arrived with a pole to pry between the gaps.

After about 15 minutes, the cat was freed with delighted locals cheering and clapping.

Macy said: ‘We hope more people would be kind to animals especially strays in the city.'

The cat lover took the creature home to clean and feed. Her friend volunteered to adopt the white cat and is expected to be taken to her new home this week.
