A cheetah mum was forced to re-catch a baby gazelle after the cubs she was teaching let it escape.

Safari guide Kennedy Leyian was in the Mara Triangle Conservancy, Kenya, at the start of October when he spotted the big cat showing her babies how to survive in the wild.

Heart wrenching footage shows the young prey pinned on its back by the three cubs before miraculously standing up and bounding off.

The cubs’ exasperated mum immediately stepped in and easily chased down the gazelle before putting its out of its misery to show perfect hunting technique.

Kennedy said: “The mother cheetah as usual was trying to find food for the family but in that process she also use it to train her cubs on hunting techniques.

“She caught the baby gazelle but didn't kill it immediately, instead she held on to it for a few minutes then let it go before it lost its last breath.

“This means the gazelle will gather a little bit of energy and be able to run so the cubs will follow it and take it down several times.

“This time the mum realised they didn't have time as there may be another predator watching nearby.

“The cubs were four months old while the gazelle is less than a month old.

“I was so amused by that since it's very rare to witness such sightings especially cheetah mother's doing that.

“In my 10-year guiding life this was only my third time witnessing such a behaviour.”
