War veterans, Great Western Railway (GWR) staff and members of the public attended an Armistice Day service where they observed a two-minute silence in honour of all war dead (November 11).

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Falkland war.

Wreaths placed onto trains along the GWR network formed a sea of poppies as they were arranged beneath the the war memorial in the station commemorating the 2,500 employees who were killed in the First World War.

The Poppies to Paddington operation is now in its third year, and was initiated during the Covid pandemic, to help communities remember the fallen when restrictions were place preventing veterans from gathering.
