Activists in Prague, Czech Republic protested against animal testing
This footage was filmed and produced 12 November 2022.
In the afternoon, a parade for science without animals passed through the center of Prague, the participants wanted to draw attention to the fact that research practices are still used in which animals suffer. According to the organizers, it is possible to use a number of alternative methods. Organizers said about 150 people attended their event.
People began to gather in Klárov before noon, at 12:00 they went to the Old Town Square. The parade ended in the upper part of Wenceslas Square with speeches by speakers. Some of the participants carried banners with inscriptions such as “Let’s stop animal suffering” or “This is not what progress looks like”, others wore doctors’ costumes and blue lab coats stained with red paint representing blood. They also carried photographs of laboratory animals. Along the way, people chanted “An animal does not belong in a laboratory”, “An animal is not a tool of science” or “An animal feels pain”.
The organizers stated in a press release that over 250,000 animals were used for research in Czech laboratories last year. At the same time, according to them, there are many alternative methods that are more reliable and cheaper, they mentioned, for example, computer modeling or 3D tissue models.
