Faulty fireworks fire into crowd at Buddhist festival
This is the scary moment faulty fireworks fired into a crowd at a Buddhist festival in Thailand.
Footage shows the firecrackers being lit by excited revelers during the Loy Krathong celebration in Bangkok on November 8.
The locals squealed as the explosives shot up into the sky, but shrieked in terror when some of the flares flew across the ground and into the group.
No one was injured as the fireworks had missed the spectators.
A similar incident occurred in Nakhon Phanom province on the same night, when 15 people were injured after defective fireworks blasted festival-goers.
The annual Loy Krathong festival, also known as Thailand's Festival of Lights, is celebrated nationwide with followers gathering on the shores of lakes, rivers, canals and beaches to release floating lanterns or 'Krathongs' to worship the Goddess of Water 'Kong Ka'.
It is said to have started in the 12th century in the ancient Thai kingdom. Meaning 'to float a basket', it follows the Buddhists belief of paying respect to water spirits.
The festival takes place on the evening with a full moon in the 12th month in the traditional Thai lunar calendar. The exact date of Loy Krathong, also spelled Loi Krathong, varies slightly every year.
