This scrapped Boeing 747 created a bizarre optical illusion making it look like it is taxiing along a road in Thailand.

The retired jumbo jet has been bought by a private collector and placed facing a busy junction in the Don Tum district of Nakhon Pathom province.

Despite being stationary, the jet - because of its position - motorists traveling towards it are fooled into thinking the aircraft is traveling along the highway.

The disused plane has become a roost for birds, and a unique tourist spot for visitors who want to snap photos.

Driver Supanat said: 'I couldn't believe what I was seeing when I was driving towards the lights. I was sure there was a plane on the road. I slowed down because I thought it might have made an emergency landing.'

Locals have become used to the scrapped aircraft from failed carrier Orient Thai Airlines. However, others have raised concerns that it could distract drivers and cause accidents.

Boeing 747s are known as the 'Queen of the Sky' but they are gradually being retired from the fleets of majot airlines due to their high running costs and large capacity.

British Airways replaced its 31 Boeing 747s with more fuel-efficient planes in July 2022.
