In Serbia, there are insufficient volumes of pork for the needs of the domestic market. The country's needs amount to about five million pigs per year, which is 2 and a half times more than the current market volume. In the first four months 26 million euros were allocated for pork imports, and all this could be invested in organized domestic production, given the exceptional quality of domestic pork.

Since the beginning of the crisis, pork meat has risen in price by 25-30 percent. The prices of energy, protective equipment, mineral fertilizers, packaging, transport have also been affected.
