An Indonesian tourist died onboard a luxury cruise ship while it was docked off the coast of Thailand.

Muhammad Isnaen, 45, was found lying face-down on the bed about an hour after the vessel arrived in Phuket province from Singapore on November 12.

The holidaymaker shared room 7616 of the Spectrum of the Seas cruise with his wife Tengu Tuty Evayani, who woke up at 2 am and called for help when Muhammad was unresponsive.

His body was taken to the ship's medical room, where doctors performed CPR on him but without success.

Police and Dr Natcha Tanpongcharoen from Patong Hospital went onboard to investigate and released initial findings that the tourist had died from acute heart failure.

Patong Police Station officer Police Lieutenant Colonel Teerasak Boonsang said: ‘A coordinator from the Spectrum of the Seas informed us that a tourist had died onboard.

'The corpse had already hardened when authorities arrived around 9 am.'

Speaking with authorities, wife Tengku said she ‘woke up and found her husband lying face down in the bed.'

When she checked on him, she noticed an unusual facial expression, but he was not moving nor responding to his calls, so she shouted for help.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Teerasak added the tourist's body was taken to Patong Hospital for an autopsy to establish an official cause of death. At the same time, the incident has been reported to the Indonesian embassy in Thailand.
