This injured macaque was rescued after it approached villagers asking for their help in Thailand.

The three-year-old male monkey had a large wound on its back when it appeared outside a local government planning office in Trat province on November 13.

Concerned villagers called authorities after seeing the macaque in an exhausted state due to its injuries.

However, the wary animal growled and bared its fangs at the rescue team when they came close. They first pacified it by feeding it with bananas and giving it some water to drink.

When the creature lowered its guard, the volunteers finally caught it in a net and later called a veterinarian to administer medical treatment.

Footage shows livestock officer Prayad Khenkah applying medicine to the monkey's wounds while it was still trapped under the net.

Prayad said: ‘The macaque must have come from a troop living around the neighborhood. It seems to have accidentally fallen against a sharp iron fence, leaving a serious injury on its back.

'It showed up at noon at one of the staff houses and remained in the same area until evening. Others have tried feeding it painkillers but the monkey just won't take the medicine.

'I examined the wound and found that the macaque had been injured for at least three days. It needed urgent medical care. If we hadn't acted quickly, it may have died.'

Prayad added that the monkey has been dosed with painkillers and will be turned over to the Khlong Kaew Waterfall National Park rangers for further treatment.
