Aerial footage of fire that ripped through residential area killing five in the Philippines
This drone footage shows the large blaze that ripped through a residential area and killed at least five people in the Philippines.
Authorities said the flames erupted in a neighbourhood in Navotas City, Metro Manila at 3:58 pm local time on November 14.
It quickly spread and strengthened in intensity, as the houses, built from 'light materials', were built close to each other, with strong winds fanning the flames.
The fire was declared extinguished at 9:22 pm.
Fire Superintendent Joel Diwata, Navotas City Fire Director, said a water interruption in the area had hampered firefighting efforts.
He said: 'We had a difficult time because the water supply was not enough. We had so many fire trucks, but the water kept running out.'
The Bureau of Fire Protection said five people, including a two-year-old boy, were killed in the fire, while two more were injured.
Around 143 displaced families were temporarily sheltered in a quarantine facility in the city.
The Navotas City government has distributed food and cash assistance to affected individuals.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire.
