Truck chock smashes through driver's window shattering his cheekbone in freak accident
This is the shocking moment a truck chock smashed through a driver's window, shattering his cheekbone in freak accident.
Englebert Paloma was travelling with family to visit their relatives when the incident happened in Quezon province, the Philippines, on October 30.
The driver parked his car for a quick stop over on a roadside to rest. However, seconds after he started the vehicle to leave, he was hit with a piece of wood being used to stop vehicles from rolling.
Dashcam footage shows the motorist starting the car before the object flew from the opposite side of the road, hitting his windscreen causing shards of glass to smash everywhere. He then crashed the vehicle onto a ditch.
Driver Englebert said: ‘They thought I was shot with a gun. I could not see anything but I fought to stay awake because my family was also inside the car with me.
‘I crashed the car onto a tree and then I blacked out. It was like a nightmare.'
The family was confused until they re-watched the cameras installed and found out that the piece of wood was wedged on a truck on the opposite of the road.
The wedge, carved from a tree trunk and with nails embedded in it, then flew towards them when the driver did not remove it before leaving.
Englebert said: ‘We still could not find the driver. But we will not stop until we find justice for what happened. My family was almost hurt.'
The driver had to undergo a reconstruction surgery for his cheekbones that were shattered from the incident.
He said he had a total of 150,000 php (2,622 USD / 2,215 GBP) bill from the hospital and wants the truck owners to show up and take responsibility.
Englebert said: ‘They should come out and pay for what they did.'
The incident has been reported to local police but the truck owner still has not been identified.
